Dark Skies

Posted on Tuesday, November 7th 2017 by Sarah Orrell

Well we were treated to a real spectacle on Tuesday of this week. Whilst at our AGM at the Highland Shooting Centre in Altass, we were given the call that the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) had appeared in the skies.  We all jumped up and rushed outside to see the sky dancing before our eyes.  One member of HOST, who will remain nameless, was so excited as he had never seen the Aurora before, was squealing like a child! We are so lucky in Sutherland as we have big, dark skies, meaning that it is often very easy to see the polar lights if we have a cloudless night.

A local photographer, Val Beales Chalmers, captured an example of what we often see, so thanks Val for this.
